Interoperability and the ability to network all combat units and operational HQ together are imperatives for military operations of the future. Saab's development team is designing systems today ready for expansion into the very-near-future of network centric warfare.

Saab is deeply involved in the current development of the new C4ISR system for the Swedish Armed Forces based on the Network Centric Warfare (NCW) concept.

The NCW concept can be summarised as:

  • Co-operating systems of systems
  • Superior situation knowledge
    ( a.k.a Dominant Battlespace Awareness)
  • Descision Superiority
  • Precision Engagement

NetC4I is Saab’s architecture for a network centric C4ISR system. The NetC4I framework is explicitly designed for prototyping, implementing and integrating network centric command and control systems.

Traditional C2 systems comprised a GIS with overlaid symbology depicting current positions of own, enemy and neutral objects along with operational intelligence and planning onstructs. The Saab NetC4I system extends with  the concepts of role based access, system of system integration, and dynamic re-configuration of system functionality and user interfaces.

NetC4I is extremely flexible and highly scalable due to its service based multi-tier architecture. Furthermore, it has a near real-time behaviour and can make use of a number of communication mechanisms and middleware.
