Saab continues important support for tactical radio communications

The Defence Material Organisation and Saab Systems Pty Ltd signed a contract to develop and supply 42 (Functional Test Capability) FTC Systems to the Army and to the Air Force. The value of the contract is $4.1M. Systems will be deployed throughout Australia and on most overseas operations.

The contract also includes the option to increase the quantity of FTC Systems from 42 up to a maximum of 75. With the award of this FTC Project, Saab provides support for all levels of repair (Light, Medium and Heavy) for the Army's Single Channel Radio Systems.

The FTC provides an automated test system for use by radio technicians and operators in the field to determine if radios are working correctly and if not to recommend operational limitations until they can undergo repair. The FTC is self contained and can be deployed in vehicles with tactical forces.

Saab was selected for this contract as a result of a continued successful, on-time delivery for radio repair system and support contracts since 2000. A continuing excellent and integrated relationship with CPE Systems Pty Ltd, a Melbourne-based SME, has helped bring this innovative system into being.

For the first time the radio test activities at all levels of repair will be integrated with feedback paths to provide focused and appropriate improvement in repair processes over time. FTC will result in significant ILS savings and improvements in radio availability for Defence exceeding the value of the contract.
