Saab has six locations around Australia with different business units concentrating on C4I systems, military systems support, civil security, camouflage and aircraft support.
The principle company, Saab Technologies Australia, has its headquarters in Adelaide where specialist systems engineers concentrate on developing complex military and civil systems solutions. These operational systems involve highly integrated software systems in which high technology, reliability and safety are paramount. These solutions are developed either individually or in partnership with global companies that have complementary products and skills.
The Australian company is part of the global Saab Group that employs over 13,700 people worldwide and generates annual revenue exceeding $A4 billion — some 20% of which is re-invested in research and development.
Saab is one of the world’s leading high technology companies with products, services and solutions ranging from military defence to civil security. The Group covers a broad spectrum of competence and capability in systems engineering and systems integration.
Military Operations
The Australian company is principally known for the development and support of the combat systems of the ANZAC class frigate for Australia and New Zealand. This highly acclaimed project delivered a fully compliant combat system on time and within budget for these versatile frigates which have seen active combat in the Gulf War. They have also met other challenges such as performing rescues in the Southern Ocean and peacekeeping in Asia Pacific region. Further enhancements of these vessels to achieve highly advanced combat systems architecture are continuing.
Building on this innovative reputation, Saab has delivered the vital system which performs the manoeuvring and platform systems control of the COLLINS class submarines.
At the same time, Saab is developing the combat management system of the Australia LHD amphibious ships as well as a miniaturised command and control system for small vessels and paramilitary platforms which is derived from and shares a common architecture with the large naval systems.
Within the land warfare domain, Saab has delivered the Battlefield Command Support System which serves as the core of the Australian Army’s tactical operational environment. These systems are backed up by extensive technical support services maintaining the latest available technologies. The integration and application of these technologies reflects Saab’s vision of a ‘seamless battlespace’. |
